| 1 egg, lightly beaten |
| 6 garlic cloves, minced |
| 3 Tbsp(s) Oregano, dried |
| 1.5 tsp(s) Kosher Salt |
| 1 tsp(s) Black Pepper |
| 1 lb(s) Lamb, ground |
| 1 lb(s) Turkey, ground |
| 8 Pita Breads |
| 2 Tbsp(s) Olive Oil |
| Tomato, sliced |
| Sweet Onion, thinly sliced |
Sauce
| 1 cup(s) Yogurt, plain |
| 1 Cucumber, medium, peeled, seeded and diced |
| 2 Tbsp(s) Lemon Juice |
| 2 Garlic Cloves, minced |
| 0.5 tsp(s) Salt |
| 0.25 tsp(s) Black Pepper |
Meat Loaf Gyros Directions
- Combine egg, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix lamb and turkey into the mixture kneading it well to thoroughly mix ingredients.
- Place the loaf in a ungreased 9 in x 5 in loaf pan.
- Bake uncovered at 350º for 60 minutes and a meat thermometer reads 160º.
- Cool completely and the refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
- For Sauce:
- Mix yogurt, cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Cut meat loaf into thin slices about 1/4 inch thick. In a large pan lightly coated with olive oil, fry the meat loaf slices until browning appears.
- Warm the pita bread and serve it with tomato, onion and meat loaf slices. top with Tzatziki sauce.
